NOISES FROM HELLO SKINNY

Day number uno after my last day of my previous employment. I’ve been cleaning (yuck), reading up on project management, and dicking around on the internet. Today I have for you music talent full of of ambient, jazzy, weird noises that I have discovered a few months back.

Hello Skinny – Hello Skinny

In November of last year Hello Skinny released their self named album. It’s super jazzy and well composed. “Bump” for instance, is noisy and disjointed, yet dance-able. I would love to post a sample from Youtube or Vimeo, but unfortunately it’s not going to happen. Instead I will redirect you to their last.fm page. You can also listen to their album on Spotify.

Hello Skinny is the brainchild of drummer Tom Skinner, whose other current involvements include Sons Of Kemet, Mulatu Astatke, Matthew Herbert, Eska, Finn Peters and The Owiny Sigoma Band amongst many others.

Skinner has also performed and/or recorded with Zero 7, Byron Wallen’s Indigo, Elmore Judd, Zed U, Eska Mtungwazi, The Invisible, We Fell To Earth, Johnny Greenwood, Willy Mason, Lianne La Havas, Pete Wareham, Jason Yarde, 2 Banks of 4, Emiliana Torrini, Max De Wardener, Rachid Taha, Baba Maal, Damon Albarn, Mara Carlyle, Soweto Kinch, Denys Baptiste, Dani Siciliano and many more

He explores areas around and between psych-dub, electronics, downtown/freak jazz and folk stylings.

His live band features Shabaka Hutchings [reeds], Hugh Jones aka Crewdson [electronics], Nick Ramm [keys, bass] and Chris Morphitis [guitar/bass].

“Crush” is their #1 hit track according to last.fm, and the UK project has it available for listening here. Give the album a chance by previewing it on Spotify if you’re not willing to shell out the $$$ for the amazon MP3s. It’s a fantastic project that deserves more notice. Even my picky DJ boyfriend likes it.

While in the process of trying to find an actual video for your viewing pleasure I came across this other band  with the same name, though apparently from New York City. Maybe it’s the same band with an added singer from a different album, it has kind of /sort of a similar vibe. I don’t know, it’s mysterious. The girl in the video is gorgeous by the way and the singer looks like Michael Kors. What do you think?
